The Final Summit by Andy Andrews - A Book Review

Publisher's description
David Ponder is back. This time the fate of mankind is in his hands. This is mankind’s last chance. Centuries of greed, pride, and hate have sent humanity hurtling toward disaster, and far from its original purpose. There is only one solution that can reset the compass and right the ship, and it consists of only two words. With time running out, it is up to David Ponder and a cast of history’s best and brightest minds to uncover this solution before it is too late. The catch? They are allowed only five tries to discover the answer.
Readers first encountered David Ponder in The Traveler's Gift. Now, in The Final Summit, Andrews combines a riveting narrative with astounding history in order to show us the one thing we must do when we don’t know what to do.

My Thoughts
This is my first Andy Andrews book and while it might have been nice to have read The Traveler's Gift, it was not necessary.  The Final Summit stands completely on it's own and the reader is not at all lost jumping in at "book 2".  When I first started reading the book I loved it, as I continued I got "bogged down" in the middle, and then couldn't put it down when I got close to the end.
The book is filled with what I call accurate historical fiction - even though the conversations of those from our past are fictitious I feel like they hold true to the character.  There are many highly recognizable characters such as Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln and King David along with a few less recognizable but highly interesting ones.  Do you know who Eric Erickson is or what place he holds in our history?
As we venture into history with these characters, they give us little snippets of wisdom and thoughts to ponder along the way. To be honest this is the part where I started getting "bogged down", but it is also the part that has come back to my mind when faced with decisions and situations in the days since finishing the book.  I am glad that I was unable to write this review immediately after finishing the book because at that time I did not realize how much it had impacted me.
An easy to read but much deeper book than it appears at first glance.  I am looking forward to reading The Travelers Gift.
I received a free copy of this book from BookSneeze in return for my review.  I was not required to give a positive review.
