Well this is the first time I have had a minute to sit down and let everyone know what we are up to. We arrived Thursday around noon, took showers, a short tour of the base, and thought we were going to be able to tour Alana and Mitch's new home but were very disappointed after waiting for an hour to find out we weren't going to be able to see it until Tuesday morning.
Today we were up and off early for our first day in DC - we saw the White House, the National Aquarium, the Washing Monument, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. We were lucky as it was a little cooler than yesterday and while we did get sprinkled on we didn't really get rained on as was predicted. Tomorrow we are hoping to make Virgina Beach and pray that our luck will hold out and the rain will stay away!!

At this point Shayla was not so sure she like the ocean even though she has been wanting to go since her Mom and Dad went to Hawaii in February and sent her pictures. She did finally warm up to it and eventually starting chasing the waves as they would ebb but I think she liked the wave pools and sand much better!!
It was on the "bucket list" - to build a sandcastle with my grandkids as I never got to do it with my kids when they were little but Autumn had as much fun as Shayla and Mitchell is a great building engineer!!

Our sand castle attracted a crowd!! This is the finished project just before Mitchell let the water in the moat - you might not can tell from the pic but there is even a bridge over the moat!!!
